R.J. Reynolds’ grandson to speak at two high schools
Patrick Reynolds, a grandson of tobacco company founder R.J. Reynolds, will hold tobacco prevention assembly programs at two area high schools – Pawhuska High School on Sept. 13, and Hominy on Sept. 14.
Reynolds spoke out against the cigarette industry to the U.S. Congress after his father died from smoking. He has become an outspoken opponent of tobacco, and is Executive Director of the Foundation for a Tobaccofree Earth in Los Angeles.
Reynolds will tell the story of his father’s death from smoking. He will emphasize the addictiveness of tobacco, and show slides showing how the tobacco industry has targeted youth, asking students, How do you feel about that?
He’ll share the story of high school track star Sean Marsee, who died at 19 from chewing tobacco, and show before and after photos.
At a time when many young people are worried about the future, Reynolds will offer his inspirational message of hope, which concludes, Hold on to your health — you’ll need it in the incredible, amazing years ahead.
Reynolds will speak Sept.13 at 2 p.m. at the Pawhuska High School, Oren Terrill Field House, 621 East 15th Street, Pawhuska.
Reynolds will also speak Sept. 14 at 10 a.m., Hominy High School Gymnasium, 200 South Pettit Avenue, Hominy.
