The Beverly Hills City Council Tuesday night voted unanimously to enact an outdoor smoking ban in a number of areas.

The ordinance will outlaw smoking in outdoor dining and hotel pool areas.

The ban will go into effect October 1, 2007.

Violators will be fined $100 for the first offense. Repeated offenses could result in fines $500 and higher.

Smoking is already banned inside restaurants by state law.
